After two years of the pandemic we are delighted to be returning to full length concerts and looking forward to choral singing at its best. Our first concert of 2022 is a joint venture with Sterndale Singers performing Rossini’s Petite Messe Solonnelle under the baton of Robert Webb who is musical director of both choirs. Soloists are Clare Wheat Gooing, Joanna Gamble and David Watkin Holmes. The work will be accompanied by Jonathan Gooing – piano and Ruth Milsom – harmonium.
Saturday 5th March 7pm St Marie’s Cathedral, Sheffield AND Sunday 6th March 3pm St Margaret’s Church, Swinton.
‘I will sing with the spirit’ was an apt opening which resonated the tone of the evening to come. Bel Canto’s programme was befitting of the Remembrance weekend with Rutter’s ‘Requiem’ which was beautifully performed under the direction of our MD Robert Webb who always brings the best out in the choir and to whom we owe our success.
We are very grateful to the delightful Emily Atkinson who sang the soprano solo at only four hours notice and touched the hearts of everyone with the beauty of her voice. Thank you also to our guest cellist Dionne Clow, whose solo created such an atmosphere in ‘Out of the deep’ and huge thanks of course to Jonathan Gooing who provided great support to the choir in his piano accompaniment as always.
With a good turnout from a very appreciative audience, the evening can be considered a wonderful success on every level.
