Diamond Jubilee Concert

Diamond Jubilee Concert
Wentworth Church Saturday 9th June
The concert was well-received and went well, though we had some placement difficulty owing to access to the venue being limited before the event.

A fine venue though, and the Rotherham Advertiser correspondent wrote…“PARISH CHURCH: The first visit by Bel Canto choir to Wentworth was a resounding success. More than 200 people filled the central nave and were treated to a . fine presentation of jubilee music. Britten dominated the first half, Sullivan and Parry provided the bulk of a second half, of rather more popular and well-known items, before a Proms finale of Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory. In the rich acoustics of Wentworth’s fine church the choir were tight and disciplined, yet bursting with musicality, including some fine solos, justifying the hard work put into relearsals by David Barnard (MD) and Jonathan Gooing (organ). The music was interspersed with proper and improper readings by choir members and associates. The income goes to subsidise the costs of the choir’s major concerts. “
