The Messiah

The Messiah
St Margaret’s Swinton Saturday 24th March
We were really happy with the baroque concert of Handel’s ‘The Messiah’ and it seems that the very numerous audience enjoyed the experience.

We had some great comments from our soloists..

“It was a fantastic concert and I enjoyed the whole day immensely. I hope the audience and the choir did as well..”
“Great concert on Saturday I think you’ll agree. I was so amazed by the standard of the choir…”
“It is very rare to sing with such a good choral society – what a privilege!”
” What a great evening to be a part of…
The choir were in tremendous form and it sounded as though there were twice as many of you!!!”

Messiah Prep!

Easter Concert 2012: The Messiah (GF Handel)
St Margaret’s Swinton Saturday 24th March
We are hugely enjoying our preparation for this Messiah performance- it simply looks like being a step above the usual ‘Messiah’.

David Barnard has selected the Baroque style- the original performance style in other words- with the original instrumentation, and lower pitch (and at Easter- the time it was written for!). What we are finding is an altogether livelier piece of music, no omissions (!) but no greater length as solo items are not extensively repeated ( as is the usual case).

The plan is that as well as being MD, David will join Jonathan Gooing to accompany on harpsichord and chamber organ with addition of cello and trumpet.

Impressive soloists Deborah Norman (soprano) Charlotte Tetley (mezzo) Christopher Lemmings (tenor) and Richard Morris (bass) will join us.
