FROM GOODALL TO SINATRA – what an amazing evening!

It was a pleasure to welcome the talented musicians of Hill House School, Doncaster to St Margaret’s Church Swinton last night to perform in the concert.

Goodall’s ‘Eternal Light’ was a beautiful start to the evening and a fitting theme for Remembrance weekend. Jonathan Gooing accompanied the choir on piano exquisitely, Clare Wheat (soprano) and Silviu Cobeanu (bass) both delighted the audience with their moving performances and were well supported by the choir whose thoughtful interpretation, under the baton of MD Robert Webb, echoed the poignancy of the music and left the audience feeling uplifted.

Hill House Jazz Band opened the second half of the concert with ‘Sway’ and those marimba rhythms certainly set every foot tapping. The Barbershop group very skilfully brought a taste of the Deep South with their close harmonies and the Senior Girl’s Choir added some lovely choices of contemporary music.

The finale was a great mix of the Jazz Band and wonderful soloist performing Sinatra’s ‘That’s Life’ with Bel Canto enjoying every moment as backing singers.

It was wonderful to see a packed audience and we hope Hill House will return to a Swinton in the not too distant future to join Bel Canto in making music again.
